Error: -6130, 0 QuickBooks is trying to access the company file, but cannot contact the database

Opening a QuickBooks Desktop company file displays the message:

Error: -6130, 0

QuickBooks is trying to access the company file but cannot contact the database server.

Why this is happening
  • This error normally occurs when your QuickBooks Desktop file is damaged.
  • This error might stop your Database Server Manager service from running on your computer.
How to fix it

Important: Ensure that QuickBooks Desktop is up to date. Intuit recommends to install and run the QuickBooks File Doctor tool first before performing manual steps below. If after using the tool and you still having the same error, perform the following solutions in the order shown below.

Before opening the QuickBooks Desktop file, you need to be sure the QuickBooks Database Manager is running:

Your data file is possibly damaged and cannot be opened. Every time you attempt to open your QuickBooks file it stops the Database Server Manager service from running. You should restart the service first every time you attempt to open the QuickBooks Desktop file.

  1. Right click Computer.
  2. Choose Manage. The Computer Management window opens.
  3. Click Services and Applications.
  4. Click Services. This will display an alphabetical list of all Services running on your computer.
  5. Right click on the QuickBooks DB service that applies to your version of QuickBooks from the Services list.
    • QuickBooksDB27 - For QuickBooks 2017
    • QuickBooksDB26 - For QuickBooks 2016
    • QuickBooksDB25 - For QuickBooks 2015
    • QuickBooksDB24 - For QuickBooks 2014
  6. Choose Properties from the menu opened in step 6.
  7. On the General Tab, click the Start button.
  8. A Service Control window will open and start the service and close.
