Error “Proseries Quickbooks event com exe has stopped working…” When Opening a Company File

When opening any QuickBooks Desktop Company File, you receive the following error:

Proseries Quickbooks event com exe has stopped working.  A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.  Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available

You may also find the following error in the Window Event Viewer log:

Faulting application QBPSEVNT07R.EXE …  Event id 1000
This problem is caused by an installation of ProSeries on the computer that was removed/uninstalled, but a problem may have occurred during that uninstall.  To resolve this issue, you need to rename all ProSeries folders.
Solution Description

To Resolve this Error

  1. First, open up your C:\ (My Computer-> Local Disk C:\)
  2. Look for ProSeries folders...

In this example, there is a ProWin08 folder on the C:\. This is what causes the COM error in QuickBooks.
: If you have ProSeries 2008 or other years of ProSeries, then most likley you have a folder left behind, which was not removed when you uninstalled that year of ProSeries. In other words, lets say we uninstalled ProSeries 2008 and the folder is left behind. The left behind folder is what causes this problem.

You may see BaseWin0x, if so, then you will want to rename those as well, as long as you do not longer use those versions.

  1. Next, right-click on the ProWin0x folder, and choose Rename.
  2. Type the word old at the end and press Enter. QuickBooks will be working now.
