QuickBooks Company File Icons are White Instead of Green QuickBooks Logo

QuickBooks Desktop company file (.QBW) icons are white pieces of paper instead of green QuickBooks logo. The files can still be opened in QuickBooks, but the customer may be concerned because it is hard to differentiate the .nd and .tlg files from the .qbw files.

How to fix it

Set the correct file association in Windows or toggle the Window's file association to another program and then back to QuickBooks Launcher.

  1. Open any folder and click on Tools and then click Folder Options.
  2. Click on the File Types tab.
  3. Click the letter Q on the keyboard and look for QBW in the list.
  4. The "Opens With" selection should read "QuickBooks Launcher". If it does not, click Change and choose QuickBooks Launcher from the list.(Note: If the QuickBooks Launcher is not on the list, you can browse to it by clicking Browse and using the path C:\Program Files\Common Files\Intuit\QuickBooks and choosing the file QBLaunch.exe.)
  5. If the "Opens With" section already reads QuickBooks Launcher then click Change. Choose any other program and click OK. Then click Change and toggle it back to QuickBooks Launcher.
  6. If the icon for the QuickBooks file is still not the green QuickBooks logo, then repair QuickBooks.
  7. If the icon for the QuickBooks file is still not the green QuickBooks logo, then perform a clean uninstall and reinstall of QuickBooks.
