Error 100060: QuickBooks POS could not create some necessary accounts in your QuickBooks

When running a financial exchange, you receive the following error message:

Why this is happening

Account numbers are active in QuickBooks during the first financial exchange with Point of Sale or the user currently logged into QuickBooks does not have QuickBooks administrator permissions.

How to fix it

To resolve this issue and continue using account numbers in QuickBooks:

  1. Open the QuickBooks Financial software.
  2. Choose Edit > Preferences > Accounting.
  3. Click Company Preferences and clear the "Use account numbers" checkbox.
  4. Click OK.
  5. From Point of Sale, perform a Financial Exchange.
  6. In QuickBooks, go to Edit > Preferences > Accounting.
  7. Click Company Preferences and select  Use account numbers checkbox to reactivate the account number feature.
  8. Click OK.

If account numbers are not active in QuickBooks, the user logged into QuickBooks may not have QuickBooks administrator permissions. To resolve this issue:

  1. In the Point of Sale Company Preferences, click Cancel.
  2. In QuickBooks, choose File > Close Company/Logoff.
  3. Click Open on the No Company Open screen.
  4. Log into the company file as the administrator and choose Window > Close All.
  5. In Point of Sale, choose File > Preferences > Company.
  6. Choose Accounts under the Financial preference and verify that all accounts under the Basic tab and the Advanced tab have no brackets.
  7. If any accounts still contain brackets and the appropriate account cannot be found in the dropdown list, create the account in QuickBooks:
    1. In QuickBooks, choose Lists > Chart of Accounts.
    2. Click Account in the lower left portion of the screen and select New.
    3. Choose the appropriate account type and name the account, filling out additional fields as desired.
    4. Click OK and close the chart of accounts.
  8. In Point of Sale, close and re-open the Company Preferences window and choose Accounts checking both basic and advanced. There should be no brackets at this time.
