No activity or Backup Failed message appears when doing a manual backup with Intuit Data Protect

When you perform a manual backup using Intuit Data Protect, nothing happens after you click Back Up Now, or you immediately receive a Backup Failed message.

How to fix it

Intuit recommends more than one solution for this issue. The first solution may solve your problem, or you may need to try all to resolve the issue. For best results, perform the solutions in the order shown.

Before you proceed ensure IDP is updated.

Solution 1: Run a manual backup with QuickBooks closed

Close QuickBooks and try running another manual backup. Follow The Backup Process steps from Use Intuit Data Protect to protect your data. If performing a manual backup did not resolve the issue, try Solution 2.

Solution 2: Restart the QBIDPservice

  1. Right-click the Intuit Data Protect icon in the system tray and choose Exit Intuit Data Protect.
  2. Click the Windows Start button and select Run.
Note: If you do not see the Run command, try simultaneously pressing the Windows logo and R keys to open the Run window.
  3. In the text field, enter Services.msc. Press Enter.
  4. Find and double-click QBIDPService.exe.
  5. In the General tab, find the Startup type section and choose Automatic.
  6. Click Stop and Start to restart the service.
  7. Click Apply then OK.
  8. Run another backup.
If after restarting the services you still encounter the issue, try Solution 3.
Solution 3: Run the IDP Diagnostic Tool.
