Hundreds of pages are sent to printer when you print a one page invoice

When you print an invoice that is only one page:

  • QuickBooks sends hundreds of pages to your printer.

When you print from the File menu:

  • The queue may loop or fluctuate between extreme highs and lows by going in to the hundreds of pages, then back to zero (or below), then up again.
  • You receive a message, "preparing page". The number of pages sent to the queue increases to the point where QuickBooks locks up and stops responding.
Why this is happening

This can happen when the invoice template is damaged.

How to fix it

You can resolve this issue by setting the invoice template back to default, then re-customizing it to your needs.

  1. Choose the Lists menu>select Templates.
  2. Scroll to the template you use for your invoices.
Note: If you're not sure what the your invoice template is called, open an invoice and look at the upper right corner.
  3. Double-click on your Invoice Template.
  4. Click the Additional Customization button.
  5. Click the Default button.
  6. Click Ok.
  7. Print a TEST invoice with the default template.

If the invoice prints one page successfully, you can customize the template to meet your needs.
