Error: The conversion tool has experienced a problem importing data into your new QuickBooks file

This error typically occurs when there is a problem locating the QuickBooks "shell" file.

How to fix it

To solve this problem, manually start the shell file.

Note:You may need to turn off User Account Control before running the Conversion Tool. Make sure you follow the steps to turn User Account Control back on when you have successfully converted your file.

  1. Start QuickBooks Desktop.
  2. Go to the File menu and choose Open Company.
  3. Browse to C:\Users\Public\Documents\Intuit\QuickBooks\Company Files\Conversion Tool Template Files\ .
  4. Open the file that corresponds to your year and version of QuickBooks (for example, Shell2015.QBW is the file for QuickBooks 2015 for Windows). This will start the shell file.
  5. Exit QuickBooks Desktop and re-run the QuickBooks Conversion Tool.
