Sync fails with message Couldn't find _logs folder

Why this is happening

This problem is known to happen if you've installed the Sybase application SQL Anywhere after you've installed QuickBooks.

If you're not sure if you have SQL Anywhere installed, check the Windows Programs list for SQL Anywhere 10 (choose Start > Programs).

To see whether SQL Anywhere was installed after QuickBooks, compare the creation dates for these 2 files:

  • qbw32.exe (found in the QuickBooks install directory, for instance, C:\Program Files\Intuit\QuickBooks 2013)
  • scjview.exe (found in the SQL Anywhere install directory)

How to fix it

To fix the problem, reinstall QuickBooks using the following steps to preserve your Sync Manager data:

  1. Go to the folder C:\Documents and Settings\bbowden\Local Settings\Application Data\Intuit\ and rename the SyncManager folder to SyncManager_Backup.
  2. Uninstall and then reinstall QuickBooks. If you need instructions, in QuickBooks choose Help and search for Uninstall QuickBooks and Reinstall QuickBooks. Print both Help topics and then close QuickBooks before you uninstall it.
  3. Make sure you have the latest version of Sync Manager:
    1. In QuickBooks, from the Help choose Update QuickBooks.
    2. Make sure Automatic Update is on.
    3. If not, go to the Options tab, click Yes next to Automatic Update, and then click Save. Then click to the Update Now tab and click Get Updates.
  4. Go to the folder C:\Documents and Settings\\Local Settings\Application Data\Intuit\ and rename SyncManager_Backup to SyncManager.
