Error 15242, 15243, 15244, 15246, and 15247: The update did not complete successfully.

One of the following errors occurs when updating QuickBooks Desktop:

  • Error 15242: 15243: 15244: 15246: 15247: The update did not complete successfully. The QuickBooks FCS Service is not responding or is damaged.
How to fix it

Repair the QuickBooks installation

  1. Rename C:/Program Files/Common Files/Intuit/QuickBooks folder
    1. On your keyboard, press Windows + E to open the Computer window.
    2. Browse to Program Files/Common Files/Intuit.
    3. Right click on the QuickBooks folder and choose Rename.
    4. Type QuickBooks.OLD and press Enter to save.
  2. Restart in selective startup
  3. Repair the QuickBooks installation

    Note: If you receive the message, "Files in Use," click Ignore to continue with the repair. You may be asked to restart your computer after the repair process.

  4. Return the computer to the normal boot process by repeating step 2 above and using Enable All rather than Disable All.

You can get the current updates by:

  1. Click Employees > My Payroll Service Manage Service Key. The QuickBooks Service Keys will open.
  2. In the QuickBooks Service Keys window highlight the current payroll subscription and choose Edit.
  3. Click Next through to Finish or click OK.  QuickBooks will re-validate the payroll subscription.
  4. When the validation is complete, the tax table will update to the correct version.
