Error 12152: QuickBooks cannot complete this update

When trying to update QuickBooks or get a payroll update, you  experience the following error:

Error 12152: QuickBooks cannot complete this update. Make sure that your internet connection is working properly, then try updating later to see if the problem has resolved.
Why this is happening

This error message can appear when the Internet Connection Settings in QuickBooks Desktop are not configured correctly.

How to fix it

First be sure that you are connected to the internet and can access a secure site. If you are unable to access this site and other secure sites, you may need to configure your proxy server or firewall.

  1. In QuickBooks, click the Help menu, and then choose Internet Connection Setup.
  2. Select Use my computer's Internet connection settings to establish a connection when this application accesses the Internet, and then click Next.
  3. Click Advanced Connection Settings, and then click the Advanced tab.
  4. Scroll to the bottom of the Settings window and verify that both Use SSL 2.0 and Use SSL 3.0 are selected.
  5. Click OK, and then click Done.
