QuickBooks Desktop Help displays error messages

One of the following errors occur when using QuickBooks Desktop Help:

  • Error: A Runtime Error has occurred. Do you wish to debug?
  • An error has occurred on the script in this page (Line 437, Line 23, or Line 22). Object doesn't support this property or method
  • line 253 (or other numbers) syntax error
  • Page cannot be displayed
  • Error Code 00001 59204
Why this is happening

This error occurs because QuickBooks Desktop Help must be updated to work with the recent Microsoft updates for Internet Explorer, or Internet Explorer is still on an outdated version such as IE 6. For error code 00001 59204, this issue has been seen on computers running Windows Vista with Windows Sidebar turned on, there appears to be a conflict between the QuickBooks Help module and the Windows Sidebar.

How to fix it

Important: Ensure that your QuickBooks Desktop is up to date before performing any of the following steps shown below.



If you are on WIndows Vista and  getting error code 00001 59204 when opening QuickBooks Help, please follow the steps below.

Solution 1: Turn off Windows Sidebar

  1. Right-click the Windows Sidebar icon in the system tray, click Exit.
  2. Open QuickBooks Desktop.

Note: With the sidebar turned off, the QuickBooks Desktop Help should be able to open without error.
