Error: -6175, 0...trying to access the company file but the database server is not responding

When you try to open a data file on a workstation, you receive this error:

QuickBooks is trying to access the company file but the database server is not responding.
Why this is happening

This error indicates that QuickBooks Desktop could not contact the computer where the company file is located.

How to fix it

To resolve this error:

  1. Wait a few minutes to allow the computer to complete other tasks and then try again.
  2. On the computer where the company file is stored, verify that the computer is powered on and is not in Standby or Hibernate mode.
  3. Configure firewall ports manually to allow QuickBooks Desktop programs or files to pass thru your network connection.
  4. Restart QuickBooks Database Server Manager to refresh the hosting of your QuickBooks Desktop files.
