Error 0x80070035: Unable to open company file, network path not found

The following error is received when attempting to open a company file on a Windows Vista workstation from a Windows XP host machine.

Error 0x80070035: Unable to open company file, network path not found.
Why this is happening

This issue could be caused by a network configuration issue, or the Link-Layer Topology Discovery (LLTD) Responder component may not have been installed in the Windows Vista workstation/server.

How to fix it

Intuit recommends 3 solutions for this problem. The first solution may solve your problem, or you may need to try all 3 to resolve the issue. For best results, perform the solutions in the order shown.

Solution 1: Check that QBCFMonitorService is running

  1. On your keyboard, press the Windows logo+R. The Run dialog box opens.
  2. Enter Services.msc and press the click OK.
  3. Right-click on QBCFMonitor Services and click Properties.
  4. Select Automatic in the Startup Type drop-down menu, click the Start button and then click OK.

If you still encounter the error, go to Solution 2.

Solution 2: Check Network Configuration

Check your network configuration. Go to Installing and configuring QuickBooks for a multi-user or network environment and verify that everything has been setup correctly.

If you still encounter the error, go to Solution 3.

Solution 3: Install Link-Layer Topology Discovery (LLTD) Responder component

Follow Microsoft KB 922120 to install the Link-Layer Topology Discovery (LLTD) Responder component.
