QuickBooks Database Server Manager scan does not find any company files

QuickBooks Database Server Manager is not detecting any QuickBooks Desktop Company file after running a scan.

Why this is happening

This can occur when:

  • The folder you are scanning does not contain any company files.
  • The folder you are scanning is hidden.
How to fix it

Verify the folder you are trying to scan contains QuickBooks Desktop company files and be sure the Hidden property is not selected.

  1. On your keyboard, press Windows + E to open the Computer window.
  2. Open the folder you are trying to scan with QuickBooks Database Server Manager.
  3. Verify that the folder contains one or more QuickBooks company files (.qbw).
Note: Depending on whether your Windows Folder Options are set to show or hide extensions for known file types, you may not be able to see the .qbw file extension associated with QuickBooks company files. If you cannot see the file extension:
    1. In Windows Explorer, under the View tab, click Options and choose Change folder and search options.
    2. Under the View tab, click to clear  Hide extensions for known file types checkbox.
    3. Click Apply and OK to close the Folder Options window.
    4. File extensions should now appear along with each file name.
  4. Make sure that every QuickBooks Desktop company file in that folder is not a hidden file.
    1. Right click the file and select Properties.
    2. Under the General tab, click to clear the Hidden checkbox.
    3. Click Apply and OK.
  5. Make sure the folder containing the company files it is not hidden.
    1. On the left pane of the Windows Explorer window, right-click the folder that contains your company files and select Properties.
    2. Under the General tab, click to clear the Hidden checkbox.
    3. Click Apply and OK.
  6. After clearing the Hidden property from all company files and the folder that contains them, use the QuickBooks Database Server Manager to scan the folder again.
