Prompt for changing online banking pin

Every time transactions are downloaded in the Bank Feeds Center, a prompt to change the online banking pin number is seen, even if the pin has already been changed.

Why this is happening

Possible causes for this include:

  • QuickBooks requires that you change your Online Banking PIN number at the time of your first download.
  • The account has been locked by the server due to a series of incorrect entries or PIN has been changed a lot of times in a single day.
  • Incorrect PIN format entered when the new pin was entered (7 digit pin entered when it should be a 4 digit pin).
  • Damage to the account.
How to fix it

If this is your first download for the account:

QuickBooks will continue to prompt for a new PIN until either of the two conditions are met:

  • The PIN number is changed.
  • Your current PIN number is entered in all three fields (This allows you to keep your current PIN number).

If the account has been locked by the server due to a series of incorrect entries or PIN has been changed a lot of times in a single day:

If this happens, you must contact your financial institution to reset the PIN on their end. Banks usually take 24 business hours to reset the PIN.

If you have used an incorrect format when you initially entered the PIN:

Please contact your financial institution to verify the requirements for their PIN. Some banks require 7 digits but most use only 4.

If you suspect possible account damage:

  1. Disable and re-brand the account.
  2. Go to the Bank Feeds Center and click Send/Receive (Classic Mode) or the  button (Register Mode).
  3. If you are asked to change the pin again, click Cancel.
  4. Click Send/Receive (Classic Mode) or the button (Register Mode) again. If you still get the prompt, continue with step 5.
  5. Merge the existing account into a New account.
    1. From the List menu, click Chart of Accounts > Account>New.
    2. Create a new Bank account with the name of 1.
    3. Right-click the original Bank account and choose Edit.
    4. Change the name to 1 and click OK.
    5. When prompted to merge the account, click Yes.
    6. Re-brand the account.
  6. Go to the Bank Feeds Center and choose Go Online, if you are prompted to change the pin again, continue with step 7.
  7. Test in a new Company file:
    1. Go to File > New Company > Skip Interview and complete the wizard (it doesn't matter what you put in here, this is just a test company and will not be used for your file).
    2. Set up the bank account using your online banking information.
    3. Try the download.
