Resolve Point of Sale installation errors

When attempting to install Point of Sale, the following error message appears:

Error 1304. Error writing to file Intuit.Spc.Esd.Client.BusinessLogic.dll

Error 1642: Error installing Microsoft .NET. Could not verify digital signature of file %s

Error: 1706 No valid source could be found when opening Point of Sale

Error: Unable to start the "IntuitUpdateService" Error: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion

Why this is happening

These errors may be caused by:

  • Beta version of Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 on the computer
  • Microsoft .NET Framework is not properly installed
  • Point of Sale installation is damaged
How to fix it
  • Before resolving this issue, be sure you have created a restore point in Windows. Consult your Windows documentation to accomplish this.
  • Following this process requires that you have your Point of Sale installation CD available.
  1. Update QuickBooks Point of Sale for Desktop to the latest release.
    1. Go to the Product updates page
    2. Make sure Point of Sale is selected as your product.
    3. Follow the instructions to install a Manual update.
    4. You may have to reboot afterwards.
  2. Run the system file checker.
    Run the System File Checker (sfc) tool using the /scannow option.This will attempt to repair all Windows  operating system files, including Microsoft .NET Framework.
  3. Reinstall QuickBooks Point of Sale for Desktop.
    You may need to uninstall and reinstall Point of Sale to resolve these errors.
