The Verify Data utility displays "Duplicate names encountered." The Qbwin.log, file contains one of these, or a similar, message:
LVL_ERROR: >Error: Verify [Name] list. Duplicate name encountered. Name: Records XXXX (1) and XXXX (2).
Details of the various messages:
You have a form of list damage in which two or more list elements have identical names. This damage can occur when:
Use the QBWIN.log file to find the duplicates.
Use the Master Name List to find duplicate names:
Use your regular lists to find accounts, items, templates, etc.
Important! Before you proceed, make a backup of your company data.
To resolve the duplicate names issue:
When you modify the names you will have two similar names. Determine if you need to keep one or both. You can try to delete one name, and if you can, then you are finished. If you cannot delete either element, then you need to merge them.
Note: If you fix all your errors and you see the error referring to templates, go to Default template set up by QuickBooks and it cannot be deleted or modified.
