Error Message: Protected Data Limit reached while saving files from Online Backup

When you select company files to be saved using Online Backup, there would be instances when this error message would show up:

Protected Data Limit Reached

Why this is happening?

This error occurs when you select a larger number of company files that is more than the allotted or allowable in QuickBooks Online Back up.

How to fix it

How to ADD or REMOVE files from your Online Backup:

  1. Launch QuickBooks.
  2. Access the QuickBooks Online Backup application.
  3. From the Online Backup window, click the checkmark next to the files you wish to back up.
  4. Uncheck/Remove checkmark to de-select the files from the backup set.
Take Note:
  • You can see the total number of files being backed up along with the total megabytes on the lower right corner of the screen.
    This can serve as your guide so you would know if you have already reached or exceeded the limit.
  • Take note also that once a file has been excluded or deselected from a backup set, any backups of this file that exist on the server will be stored for 90 days only
    (and can be restored from the server for 90 days). After 90 days, the backups will be deleted permanently.
