Automatic backup stops responding at 99% and process is not complete

QuickBooks has the capability to automatically back up your company file/s. When this feature is activated, your files will be saved and backed up in your preferred location.

During the process, there would be instances when QuickBooks would stop running at 99% (just when it is about to finish),
then the back up process would be end abruptly and would not be complete.

A *.tmp (temporary? file extension will be created and the Automatic backup icon will continue to show in the Windows System Tray.

How to fix it

Intuit recommends 2 solutions for this error. The first solution may solve your problem or you may need to try both to resolve the issue.
To get the most applicable and accurate solution, perform the steps in the order shown.

Solution 1: Download QuickBooks File Doctor

  1. Download, install and run theQuickBooks File Doctor.
    If this does not resolve the error, proceed to solution 2.

Solution 2: Check for possible data damage.

  1. Perform the standard Data Damage troubleshooting.
