Error: Your installation was not finished

When installing QuickBooks Online Backup, you see the following message:

Your installation was not finished. A connection will be made to the data center to complete your installation.

Why this is happening
  • The password entered is incorrect.
  • The installation process did not complete successfully.
How to fix it

Intuit recommends 2 solutions for this problem. The first solution may solve your problem, or you may need to try both to resolve the issue. For best results, perform the solutions in the order shown.

Solution 1: Update your password

Download and run the Online Backup Password Update Utility 2.0 to update your password.

If you still encounter the error, go to solution 2

Solution 2: Uninstall and reinstall QuickBooks Online Backup

Uninstalling QuickBooks Online Backup:

  1. From the Windows Start menu, select Programs > QuickBooksOnlineBackup.
  2. Select Uninstall Online Backup.
  3. Click Yes to continue with uninstalling the program.
  4. Click OK to restart the computer.

Reinstall QuickBooks Online Backup:

  1. Go to the QuickBooks Online Backup Support Home page.
  2. Enter your Account ID and Password and click the Web Restore button.
  3. If prompted, install the ActiveX control.
  4. Follow the online instructions and locate the file or folder that you want to restore.
  5. Click Restore.

Note: You will need to be logged in as the Administrator.
