QuickBooks stops responding when opening the Bank Feeds Center

Why this is happening

When initially opening the Bank Feeds Center, accounts with many online transactions can take a long time to open.

There are a couple of other reasons you might experience this issue:.

  • This issue has been seen in newer Windows 7 systems with Internet Explorer 9.
  • This issue can occur if the online account is damaged.

How to fix it

The best course of action is to wait for QuickBooks Desktop to open the Bank Feeds Center. During this time, your Microsoft(R) Windows(R) Task List or Task Manager may indicate that QuickBooks Desktop is not responding. Do not click EndTask until at least 10 minutes have elapsed, since it can take up to this length of time to open the Bank Feeds Center under the circumstances described above.

If the Bank Feeds Center does not open after 10 minutes, exit QuickBooks Desktop, and then try the following:

If you are on a Windows 7 system and using Internet Explorer 9:

  1. On your system navigate to c:\program files (or program files x86) \intuit\quickbooks20** (where ** is your version of QuickBooks)
  2. Find the the mshtml.dll file and rename it to mshtmlOLD.dll.
  3. Open QuickBooks and then Bank Feeds.

If the above solution does not resolve the issue or if you are not using Internet Explorer 9 on a Windows 7 or Windows Vista system:

  1. Make sure you have the latest release for your product. Press F2 or Ctrl+1 to open the Product Information window and view your QuickBooks version and release information.
  2. When opening the company file, switch to Single-user mode before opening the Bank Feeds Center. Select the QuickBooks File Menu and Select Switch to Single-user mode.
  3. Restart QuickBooks.
  4. Select Lists and then select Chart of Accounts.
  5. Double-click your online account to open it.
  6. Click the Online Services tab to verify the settings are correct or change them if they are not.
  7. Repeat steps 5 and 6 for all of your online accounts.
  8. Open the Bank Feeds Center.
