When you update a company file from an earlier version of QuickBooks Desktop to the latest version, you see this error message:
Note: If you are receiving the error "QuickBooks could not open a file necessary to process tax forms..." copy your company file to another computer and perform the file update there. Then copy it back to the first computer.
Several conditions can cause this error:
Important: Ensure that your QuickBooks Desktop is up to date. Intuit recommends several possible solutions for this problem. The first solution may solve your problem, or you may need to try all of them to resolve the issue. For best results, perform the solutions in the order shown.
If there are no unique characters in the company file and the error persists, go to solution 3
If you are still getting the same error, please proceed to solution 4.
If you are still getting the same error, please proceed to solution 5.
Run the QuickBooks File Doctor to add ports and exceptions to Windows and third party fire walls.
If you are still getting the same error, please proceed to solution 6.
