This error occurs when attempting to download and install payroll updates.
Error PS058 is a generic error in that it is not caused by a single issue. To understand what is causing this it helps to first have an understanding of the payroll updated installation process.
The installation process occurs in several stages: copying the files to the hard drive, decrypting the files, and then installing them. The copy portion is handled by the QuickBooks QBDAgent which copies the encrypted files to the hard drive. Once located on the hard drive, Microsoft Internet Explorer decrypts the files. Following the decryption, the QBDAgent installs the files to the QuickBooks program directory for use. The failure of any of these stages to complete successfully may lead to this error.
Note: This issue may be caused by a misconfigured firewall. If you have a firewall in place, please refer to Firewall and Internet security settings for updates and network access.
