The following message appears when selecting a company file in QuickBooks Desktop after upgrading to Windows 8, 7 or Vista:
The company file you selected cannot be found.
When Windows 10/8/7 and Vista is installed over an earlier version of Windows, it moves the files from the Documents and Settings folder to the Users folder.
The path to the QuickBooks Desktop company file becomes:
However, the path should be:
Note: This only happens if your QuickBooks Desktop file is saved on the default folder location.
Open QuickBooks Desktop file from default folder
Remove old file from the list
