Error: qbwebpatch.exe is not a valid win32 application

When you try to install a downloaded version of QuickBooks Desktop or a QuickBooks Desktop update, you receive the following message:

qbwebpatch.exe is not a valid win32 application.
Why this is happening

This error can occur if:

  • The downloaded QuickBooks program or QuickBooks product update is damaged or not downloaded completely. Damage can occur if there is a problem with the Internet connection during the download process, or when using a Web Accelerator program provided by various dial-up Internet Service Providers (ISP).
  • The program or update is downloaded to a location other than your local hard drive.
How to fix it

Solution: Disable the Web Accelerator and download the file again
If the error occurred when attempting to install of a downloaded copy of QuickBooks, download the file again and install it.

If the error occurred when attempting to install a program update, please follow these steps:

  1. Close QuickBooks.
  2. Search for the qbwebpatch.exe file on your computer.
  3. Rename the qbwebpatch.exe file to qbwebpatch.old.
  4. Disable Web Accelerator programs if you access the Internet with a dial-up connection. The following ISPs are known to use Web Accelerator programs:
    • AOL
    • Google
    • Earthlink
    • Juno
    • Netscape
    • NetZero
    • PeoplePC
    • SlipStream
  1. Install QuickBooks Updates.
  2. Double-click the downloaded QuickBooks update file and follow the on-screen instructions to install the QuickBooks update.
