Error: Class not registered, when setting up a Financial Exchange

When setting up integration between QuickBooks Point of Sale for Desktop and QuickBooks Desktop or when attempting to run a Financial Exchange with QuickBooks Desktop, you see the following error:

Class not registered
Why this is happening

Some necessary QuickBooks Desktop files are not registered (installed) properly.

How to fix it

To resolve this issue, close QuickBooks Point of Sale for Desktop and restart your computer. Do NOT reopen QuickBooks Point of Sale for Desktop until you have completed these steps:

  1. Rename the common files folder for QuickBooks Desktop:
    1. Right-click the Windows Start button and choose Explore (Open Windows Explorer in Windows 7).
    2. Navigate in the left window to the location: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Intuit. To navigate, click the plus sign (+) or arrow next to each folder listed.
    3. Right-click the QuickBooks Desktop folder and select Rename.
    4. Add an X to the beginning of the folder name and press Enter.
  2. Reinstall QuickBooks Desktop on the computer that hosts the QuickBooks Point of Sale for Desktop server workstation.
