Error -6175,0: An error occurred when QuickBooks tried to access the company file

QuickBooks Desktop returns the following error when you try to host multi-user access for your company data file:

An error occurred when QuickBooks tried to access the company file. Please try again. If the problem persists, contact Intuit Technical Support and provide them with the following error code: (-6175,0)
Why this is happening

This error occurs when QuickBooks Desktop is unable to start the QuickBooksDB service needed by the QBDataServiceUser to host company files due to a program time-out. This may be caused by firewall software, content blockers (cyber-sitter programs), or other issues that can prevent the service from starting.

How to fix it

Download, install and use the QuickBooks File Doctor.

If you are unable to download and use the QuickBooks File Doctor or if your issue continues to occur, please try these advanced troubleshooting steps.

  1. Confirm that the QBDataServiceUser is configured with Power User or Administrator rights. For more information, refer to this article on setting up multi-user access for QuickBooks.
  2. Confirm that QBW32.exe, QBUpdate.exe, QBDBMgr.exe and QBDBMgrN.exe have been given the correct access rights for any firewall or system security software. Learn more about configuring Internet security, personal firewall and parental control applications for QuickBooks.
