Intuit Data Protect and file server network environments

Intuit Data Protect is an online backup service by Intuit that offers a total of 100 gigabytes of space in a secured cloud environment. The service is available in the Intuit App Center and can be purchase to back up a single file or an entire PC.


Intuit Data Protect is designed to work on one PC and its local files, thus there are some limitations when the software is setup to be used in a network environment.

Detailed information

Setting up Intuit Data Protect on a “master” workstation

    • The “master” computer and the computer where the files are saved must be turned on at the time that Intuit Data protect is scheduled to backup.
    • A mapped drive must be set up in order for the Intuit Data Protect to access the remote files.
      Note:
      Intuit Data Protect cannot use UNC path to retrieve files.
    • Permissions and firewall settings must be set up for Intuit Data Protect to back up the files.
 

Setting up Intuit Data Protect on the Server

    • The full installation of QuickBooks Desktop is required to set up Intuit Data Protect.
    • Intuit Data Protect must be set up under the Windows Admin user.
    • Permissions and firewall settings must be set up for Intuit Data Protect to back up the files.

On both instances, the following limitations apply:
  • Intuit Data Protect will not perform a backup if MyBook, Norton Backup or other backup service is going through its backup process.
  • Intuit Data Protect will not perform a backup if an antivirus scan is taking place.
