 Sometimes it is necessary to rename a file for search or identification purposes within the Windows operating system. Follow these steps to make the renaming process quick and easy.

Note: When renaming a file, exercise caution to ensure that you do not accidentally change a file extension. If you change a file extension it makes a file unusable in that condition.

To rename a file in Windows:

  1. Search for the file you want to rename.
  2. Right-click the file name and choose Rename.
  3. Enter the new file name and press Enter.
