Clear recent files list in QuickBooks Statement Writer

When opening QuickBooks Statement Writer (QSW), there is an Open Report button that will display previously saved reports.  There is no way to automatically delete this list, but the steps below will provide a workaround to remove the files from that list.

Note:  This will only remove the names in the list. It will not remove any files that have been created.

Detailed Instructions:
  1. Close Statement Writer
  2.  In Windows Explorer, navigate to the Statement Writer folder
    • In Windows Vista, 7 and 8 - C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Intuit\Statement Writer
  3.  
  4. Locate the RecentReports.xml file.
  5. Right click the file and select Copy
  6. Right click an open space in this window and select Paste.
    Note:
    This will make a backup copy of the file
  7. Right click the RecentReports.xml file and select Open With
  8. Select Notepad
  9. Each file name will be listed in the Notepad under the section
  10. Remove the lines starting with and ending in for each file name to be removed from this list
  11. Repeat step 9 for each file name to be removed.
  12. Save the file (From the File menu, click Save)
  13. Re-open Statement Writer and the files under Open Reports should be gone

** Do NOT remove any information in this file above the "This is a root name" lines

Before: All files are listed

 

 

After: Only Data1 remains.  Data2-Data4 have been removed
