Use a shortcut key to access a web browser address bar

In situations where your browser may have multiple toolbars with search windows or where the browser's toolbar has been reconfigured, it can be challenging to locate the address field. Shortcut keys make it easier to locate and highlight the browser's address field, in order to enter a web address (URL).

Detailed Instructions

To access the address bar:

Note: Prior to using this shortcut, make sure the web browser is the active window.

Internet Explorer:

Hit the F4 Key.

Mozilla Firefox:

Hit the F6 Key.

Google Chrome:

Hit the F6 Key.


Hold the Command Key+ L Key.

This will highlight the current Web Address (URL) field and allow you to type a new address.
