Click to open a window and nothing happens

When opening a window within QuickBooks Desktop(Make Deposits, Invoices, Write Checks, etc.), the window appears at the edge of the visible QuickBooks Desktop window or is not visible at all.

A QuickBooks Desktop window normally opens at the size and location at which it was last opened. The current settings, stored in your company data file, can be damaged just like any other piece of data in the file.

This can cause a window to open partially off screen or, it opens so far off of the viewable screen that you are not aware it is open.

 A window can also open off the screen because:

  • It was moved off screen to see other windows and then the data file was closed.
  • Your computer's screen resolution was changed.
Detailed instructions

Open the window at its default location and size

  1. Press and hold the Shift key.
  2. Click to open the window.
  3. The window opens at its default location and at its default size.

Cascade or tile your windows

  1. In the menu bar, select Window.
  2. On the drop down, select either CascadeTile Vertically, or Tile Horizontally.
  3. Now you can see all of the open QuickBooks windows.

Reset all of your window positions and sizes

  1. In the menu bar, select Window and then select Close All.
  2. On your keyboard, press the combination CTRL + SHIFT + C.
  3. Now, all of your QuickBooks Desktop windows are set to open at their default location and their default size.
