Install, remove or repair eCheck/ScanCheck software for supported versions of QuickBooks

The QuickBooks eCheck software performs the secure connection of check transactions with Intuit payment services. For ScanCheck users it also installs the check related applications needed to pull the images from the supported scanner and into QuickBooks for processing.

If you are experiencing an issue with loading the Check scanning page in QuickBooks (similar to the image below), follow the instructions below to properly perform an install or repair.


Repair (uninstall) eCheck software
  1. Confirm that QuickBooks is closed and no other windows are open.
  2. Click on the Windows Start button on the lower left-hand corner.
  3. When this list appears select the Control Panel to open.
  4. Click on the Programs & Features icon.
  5. Uninstall the following items from the Control Panel:
    1. A2ia CheckReader
    2. Check Scanning with [type of scanner below] - NOTE: remove all versions if more than one appears.
      1. Vision X for Panini
      2. ScanSnap for Fujitsu
      3. Twain when using your own scanner
      4. Remove any other software that refers to check scanning, such as 'Check Scanning with Scan Snap Manager'
  6. Remove folders associated with check scanning software:
    1. C:\Program Files (C:\Program Files x86 - for 64bit systems)
      1. Remove the A2iA folder from this directory
    2. C:\Program Files\Intuit (C:\Program Files x86\Intuit - for 64bit systems)
      1. Delete Check Scanning with Scan Snap Manager (for Fujitsu) or Check Scanning with Vision X (for Panini)
    3. C:\ProgramData\Intuit
      1. Delete CheckScanning
  7. Remove ActiveX files associated with this process
    1. Go to C:\Windows\Downloaded Program Files
    2. Delete the following ActiveX files:
      VersionChecker, twain_control, CheckReader, TwainActiveXCAB, VersionCheckerCAB, EZTwainWrapperActiveXCab, CheckReaderActiveXCAB, CheckReaderClass, TWAINControlClass, FujitsuControlCLass, PaniniControlClaass, etc.
      NOTE: You may only have some of these files, they will differ depending on what kind of check scanner you have installed.
  8. Power off and disconnect your check scanner from the USB port on your computer.
  9. Restart the computer when finished. 


Install eCheck software
  1. Do not reconnect the check scanner to your computer until instructed to do so in the steps below.
  2. Open the QuickBooks data file that is linked to the check processing merchant account.
  3. Go to the Customers drop-down from the top of the screen.
  4. Select Check Processing Activities and click on the Scan Checks option.

  1. One of two screens will appear. 

If this is the very first time accessing ScanCheck the Installation and Setup window appears. Click the Install eCheck Software button to begin.


If this is not the first time accessing ScanCheck, the Scan Your Checks window appears. Click on the wrench icon in the upper right-hand corner to access the installation page. If you receive the warning pop-up, click the Close this scanning session and go to the install page link to proceed.


  1. Once you click on the Install eCheck software button, you are prompted to either Run or Save the file. Select Run to begin the installation.


  1. The install wizard then appears. Click Next through the options to complete the installation.
    NOTE: You may see 2 or 3 install windows depending on the type of installation. Continue to click Next with the default settings until completed.
Install the scanner drivers
  1. After completing the installation of the eCheck Software, plug in your check scanner to your computer
  2. Select the option to Start Scanning Checks
  3. Install the appropriate driver(s):
    • Panini Vision X drivers are installed during the "Install eCheck Software" process
    • Fujitsu ScanSnap drivers will need to be installed by either inserting the disc that came with the scanner or downloading the drivers using the following article - Download the latest version of the ScanSnap scanner driver.
    • TWAIN drivers are installed per your manufacturers specifications, you may check compatibility by using the TWAIN Compatibility Tool.
  1. Once you have installed the drivers for your check scanner you may now start scanning checks by going to the Customers drop-down from the top of the screen and selecting Check Processing Activities and clicking on the Scan Checks option.
  2. Choose Scan Checks and follow the prompts to start scanning your paper checks.
