Identify the UNC Path for a Mapped Drive for Multi-User Setup

When setting up additional QuickBooks Desktop workstations in a multi user environment, it is sometimes difficult to find the QuickBooks Company file over the network without detailed information on how the network was originally configured. It is useful to quickly identify the network location of QuickBooks Company file from another workstation. If this location is a mapped network drive, extra steps are required.

Detailed information

A mapped network drive is similar to a Windows Shortcut. It is not a physical drive installed on the workstation. Instead, it refers to a specific folder shared over the network. When accessing this mapped network drive, Windows will access the network folder. This network path is also known as UNC path (Universal Naming Convention).

Method 1: Check the Properties of the Mapped drive

  1. On your keyboard, press + E to open File Explorer.
  2. Right click the mapped drive and select Properties.
  3. The network path is listed on the title bar.
In this image, the Server Name is "tcsf02" and the Folder Name is "users".

If the path is not fully visible, the path might be too long. If that is the case, follow method 2.

Method 2: Show Network Details

  1. On your keyboard, press + E to open File Explorer.
  2. Right click an empty space inside the file explorer window.
  3. Select View and click Details.
