Share a network printer in Microsoft Windows Vista/7/8 and 10

Sharing a local printer across an existing network using the options available in Microsoft Windows Vista/7/8 and 10.

Detailed instructions

Note: Because of the complexity and number of available networking options, Intuit cannot provide support for specific networking issues. If you need further assistance with connecting your network printer, check with your system or network administrator (if you have one), the vendor from whom you purchased the software or hardware, the manufacturer's or software developer's Web site, or a local IT professional.

Set up your local printer to be shared across the network:

  1. On your keyboard, press the Windows logo+R. The Run dialog box opens.
  2. Enter Control then click OK. The Control Panel window opens.
  3. Locate and double-click the Devices and Printers icon. The Devices and Printer windows opens.
  4. Select and right-click the printer you would like to share and select Printer properties.
  5. Click the Sharing tab.
  6. Select the Share this printer checkbox. You can change the Share name that is shown to your network users. When done, click OK.
  7. Render print jobs on client computers is selected by default. If you have any questions about this option, please refer to Windows Help.

Connect to the printer from a networked computer:

  1. On your keyboard, press the Windows logo+R. The Run dialog box opens.
  2. Enter Control then click OK. The Control Panel window opens.
  3. Locate and double-click the Devices and Printers icon. The Devices and Printer windows opens.
