Password removal/recovery for QuickBooks Point of Sale for Desktop

If you are unable to log into QuickBooks Point of Sale for Desktop or you forgot the user password, a password recovery may be needed.

Detailed instructions

If you have forgotten or misplaced your log in password for QuickBooks Point of Sale for Desktop, here are a few steps you can try prior to using the online automated Password Reset tool.

Change a Password for a non-SysAdmin user:

  1. Log into Point of Sale as the SysAdmin user.
  2. Go to the Employees menu and select Employee List.
  3. Select the employee from the list that needs to change their password and select Edit Employee.
  4. From the Edit Employee screen click on Change Password.
  5. Have your employee enter their new password and confirm the password and click OK.
  6. Save the changes.
  7. Log into Point of Sale using the new password.

Remove/Recover the SysAdmin User Password:

Steps to try before resetting the SysAdmin password:

  • Try to log in as Administrator, using the login name of SYSADMIN. Leave the password blank and click OK.
  • Try common passwords used when trying to log in as SYSADMIN.
  • If the password contain numbers, ensure NUMLOCK is on.
  • Use a word processing program such as Microsoft Word or notepad to ensure your the letters are correct and proper case is observed.
