LMR, FAM, ISW information is not restored with a portable company file

When you restore a portable company file on a different computer from where the QuickBooks Desktop company file resides, you do not have access to Loan Manager (LMR), Fixed Asset Manager (FAM) or Intuit Statement Writer (ISW) information. This is because a portable company file only contains your company file financial data.

If you need to restore LMR, FAM, FSD, or ISW data along with the portable company file, you must copy the appropriate folders and files from the source computer, and then restore them to a corresponding location on the destination computer. Please refer to the following folder and file names and locations if you need to copy and restore Loan Manager, Fixed Asset Manager, and Intuit Statement Writer data.

Loan Manager
  • The Loan Manager file is in the same folder with your company file.
  • The Loan Manager file name is the same as the company file name, and has a .lmr extension. For example, the Loan Manager file for "MyCompanyFile.qbw" is named "MyCompanyFile.lmr."
  • Copy the .lmr file on the source computer, and then restore it to the folder on the destination computer that contains the restored portable company file.
Fixed Asset Manager
  • Fixed Asset Manager data is comprised of multiple files.
  • The location of FAM data files depends on your operating systems and version of QuickBooks Desktop:
    • QuickBooks 2016: C:\Users\Public\Documents\Intuit\QuickBooks\Company Files\FAM15\clients
    • QuickBooks 2015: C:\Users\Public\Documents\Intuit\QuickBooks\Company Files\FAM14\clients
    • QuickBooks 2014: C:\Users\Public\Documents\Intuit\QuickBooks\Company Files\FAM13\clients
  • Copy the full contents of the clients folder on the source computer, and then restore them to the same location on the destination computer.
QuickBooks Statement Writer
  • The QuickBooks Statement Writer has three file extensions, .qsm (statement), .qst (templates), and .qss (appearance).
  • The location of the files depends on your Microsoft Windows operating system.
    • .qsm C:\Users\\Documents\Intuit\Statement Writer\\file name.qsm
    • .qst C:\Program Files (or Program Files (x86))\Intuit\\Components\ISW\Library\Templates
    • .qss C:\Program Files (or Program Files (x86))\Intuit\\Components\ISW\Library\Appearances
