Transfer Master Account Administrator (MMa) Privileges

This article explains how to transfer master administration rights to another user.

Detailed Instructions

To be able to remove a customer from a company and transfer that company to someone else, the new administrator will need to be invited to the company as a user and make them the full administrator. Then the Master Account Administrator privileges will need to be transferred to the new administrator.

Add new administrator and transfer privileges:

  1. In QuickBooks Desktop, select the Company Menu > Advanced Service Administration.
  2. Log in with the current Administrator email address and password.
  3. Select Give someone access to this account.
  4. Enter the email address of the intended recipient of the administration rights and select Full Administrator Rights. Click add user. Close the window.
  5. Log into the recipient email inbox and finish registering the userid.
  6. Repeat steps 1 and 2 to log in to the administrator ID.
  7. Choose the option to Edit/Remove a user's access.
  8. Select the current administrator login This will bring up the message "The selected user is master account administrator for this Intuit Business Services account. You cannot change this user's privileges nor delete this user unless you first transfer master account administrative privileges to another user."
  9. Choose the new administrator and click the Transfer Privileges button.
  10. Log into the email for the new administrator and follow the instructions to accept the administrative role (Note: The old administrator will get a confirmation email but will not need to act on it.)

Once the new administrator has been set up and assigned privileges the old administrator can be removed.

Remove previous administrator:

  1. In QuickBooks Desktop, choose File > Close Company/Logoff.
  2. Log back into the company file.
  3. Go to Company > Advanced Service Administration.
  4. Login with the new administrator login.
  5. Choose Edit Remove a user's access.
  6. Choose the old administrator's email and click the Remove User button.

Note: If the Transfer Privileges button is not available, then the you are not logged in as the Administrator.
