Payroll Updates

Confirm that you have the most recent payroll update available

Payroll updates can include changes to tax tables, payroll tax forms, and payroll features, like E-File & Pay. To remain in compliance with your tax agencies, it’s important to download payroll updates when they become available. You can manually download a payroll update or you can set up QuickBooks to automatically get your payroll updates along with other QuickBooks updates.

Note: Be sure that you are connected to the Internet before you download a payroll update.

To get a payroll update:

  1. From the QuickBooks Employees menu, click Get Payroll Updates. The (tax table) version number is displayed in the top section of the window.
  2. Select the option to either download the entire payroll update or to download only the changes to the currently installed payroll files. In most cases, you can simply download the changes to the currently installed payroll files.
  3. Click Update. A progress bar appears. When the download is complete, a message appears.
  4. Click OK. A summary of changes appears in the QuickBooks window.

To set up QuickBooks to automatically download payroll updates:

  1. From the QuickBooks Help menu, click Update QuickBooks.
  2. Click the Options tab.
  3. In the Automatic Update field, select Yes.
  4. In the lower section of the window, make sure that the appropriate update components are selected. You can either select in the checkmark column next to the update components, or simply click Mark All.
  5. Click Save to apply your automatic update settings.
  6. Click Close.
