Turn on Google Desktop Search in QuickBooks 2010

In QuickBooks 2010, you are not able to find the access point for QuickBooks Search using Google Desktop.

|
In QuickBooks 2010, the QuickBooks Search with Google Desktop is disabled by default due to the extensive resources required to run it. There are compatibility issues with Windows 7 that may limit the functionality with this feature.

| How to fix the problem |
To continue using the QuickBooks Search using Google Desktop, follow these instructions to enable it in QuickBooks 2010.

| Detailed Instructions |
To resolve this issue click the appropriate operating system:
Windows XP
Windows Vista and Windows 7
- Close QuickBooks 2010.
- Click Start and right-click Computer and click Properties.
- Click the Advanced tab and click the Environment Variables button.
- Click the New button.
- Enter QUICK_BOOKS_GOOGLE_SEARCH in the Variable name.
Note: The Variable name is case sensitive.
- Enter ON in the Variable value.
- Click OK.
- Click OK.
- Open QuickBooks 2010.
- Look for the QuickBooks Search access points under the Edit Menu and on the Icon Bar.
Note: You may have to click the chevron (>>) at the end of the Icon bar.
