To locate and open the QBWin.log file, select one of the following options:
- Locate and open the QBWin.log file using QuickBooks:
- Open QuickBooks and open your company file.
- Press the F2 key and then the F3 key to open the Tech Help window.
- Click the Open File tab.
- (Optional) To view the location of the file, click the Path On/Off button.
- Select QBWIN.LOG in the "Select a file to open" field.
Note: If you clicked the Path On/Off button in step 4, use the scroll bars in the "Select a file to open" field to locate the QBWIN.LOG file name, which appears at the end of the path name.
- Click the Open File button to view the contents of the file.
- Locate and open the QBWin.log file using Microsoft Windows Explorer:
Note: The location of the QBWin.log file depends on the version of QuickBooks you are using, but it is always located in a folder that is hidden by default in Microsoft Windows.
- Enable Microsoft Windows to search hidden folders:
- Windows Vista
- Right-click the Windows Logo button and select Explore.
- Click Organize and select Folder and Search Options.
- Select the View tab and select the Show hidden files and folders option.
- Click OK.
- Windows XP
- Right-click the Microsoft Windows Start button and select Explore.
- Select the Tools menu and select Folder Options.
- Click the View tab.
- Select Show hidden files and folders in the Advanced Settings section of the window.
- Click OK.
- Search your computer for the QBWin.log file. . If you have multiple versions of QuickBooks installed on your computer, there will be more than one QBWin.log file. . Check the folder name to be sure you select the QBWin.log file for the desired version of QuickBooks. . If you cannot see the folder name in the Search Results window, select the View menu and select Details.
- Double-click the QBWin.log file in the Search Results window to open it and view the contents.
