Installation steps for QuickBooks Pro and Premier 2008

Overview

This page steps you through the installation screens for QuickBooks Pro or Premier 2008.


  1. Start the Installation Wizard:
    • From a CD: Insert the QuickBooks CD into the CD-ROM drive.
      Tip: If the installation does not start automatically:
      1. Right-click the Windows Start button and select Explore.
      2. Browse to your CD-ROM drive in the left pane of the window and click it to view the contents of the CD.
      3. Double-click the Setup (or Setup.exe) file in the right pane of the window to begin the installation.
    • From a Download: Double-click the downloaded installation file (.exe file extension).

  1. Close any other open programs on the computer and click Next.


  1. Read the terms of the Software License Agreement. . If you agree, select I accept the terms in the license agreement and click Next.


  1. Select the type of installation for this computer:
    • Choose One user if you will not use QuickBooks to share data with other users at the same time on a network, and then skip to Step 7.
    • Choose More than one user if you will use QuickBooks to share data with other users at the same time on a network, and then continue with Step 5.


  1. If you chose More than one user in step 4, choose an installation type:
    • Choose Install Full QuickBooks with Database if you will run the QuickBooks program on this computer.
    • Choose Install Database Server Only if you will only store QuickBooks data on this computer.


  1. If you chose More than one user in step 4, allow access to data on this computer:
    • Choose Yes, allow access if you will store data on this computer to be shared with other users.
    • Choose No, do not allow access if you will not store data on this computer to share with other users.


  1. Enter the License Number and Product Number (the text at the bottom of the window tells you where to look for it).


  1. (Optional) Install Google Desktop:
    Read the information and decide whether or not you want to install the QuickBooks Search Feature.


  1. Select an installation folder and decide if you want to upgrade an earlier version of QuickBooks:
    • Click the Change button only if you want to choose a different installation folder from the one shown.
    • Choose Select an existing version to replace (upgrade)only if you want this version of QuickBooks to replace an earlier one that is already installed on this computer. . (Don't pick this option if you want to add this version of QuickBooks to this computer along with the other versions you already have).


  1. (Optional) If another version of QuickBooks is already installed on this computer, you can copy some common settings to the new version so you won't have to create those settings all over again:


  1. That's it! Click Install to continue, or click Back if you need to go back and review any of the prior screens.


  1. Click Finish after the installation is complete. . You are ready to begin using QuickBooks.
