Configuring McAfee Personal Firewall Plus for Point of Sale (POS) functions

Overview

Internet security and personal firewall application settings can affect how Point of Sale accesses its company data file, licensing information, program updates, and the merchant account service. . Incorrect settings can result in errors.

Detailed Instructions

Print out a listing of Point of Sale ports, files and their locations so it is available as you configure your firewall.

To configure McAfee Personal Firewall Plus for Point of Sale functions:

Note: If you have a more recent version, your steps may vary to some degree.
  1. Open the McAfee Personal Firewall Plus application.
  2. In the left pane, select Internet Applications.
  3. Verify that all files listed in the Windows Firewall Configuration are listed in the Internet Applications list with Allow Full Access permissions.
  4. If any are missing, add them to the list:
    1. Click New Allowed Application.
    2. Using the list appropriate to your version, navigate to the folder containing the unlisted file.
    3. Select the file and click Open.
    4. Repeat this process for each additional file that was not listed in the Internet Applications
    5. Click OK.
