Configuring McAfee Personal Firewall 3.02 for Point of Sale (POS) functions

Overview

Internet security and personal firewall application settings can affect how Point of Sale accesses its company data file, licensing information, program updates, and the merchant account service. . Incorrect settings can result in errors.

Detailed Instructions

Print out a listing of Point of Sale ports, files and their locations so it is available as you configure your firewall.

To configure McAfee Firewall 3.02 (personal version):

  1. Click the Microsoft Windows Start button and select All Programs > McAfee > McAfee Firewall.
  2. In the McAfee Firewall Home window, select Pick a task in the lower left hand portion of the window.
  3. Select Manage the programs that you trust to access the Internet to open the Select a Program to Control window.
  4. If the files and ports noted in the Windows Firewall Configuration document are not present:
    1. Click Browse to add a program to the list to open the Windows Open File/Save dialog box.
    2. Locate the folder containing the file you need to add and select it.
    3. Click Open.
  5. When all of the files are listed, review the State column for each file. . Allowed should be displayed for each file. . For any file that does not display as Allowed:
    1. Select the file in the Program Name column.
    2. Click the option below Allow this program to have full, unfiltered access to the Internet.
    3. Confirm the changes and click OK at the bottom of the window.
  6. Close McAfee Personal Firewall.
