Configuring Zone Alarm for Point of Sale (POS) functions

Overview

Internet security and personal firewall application settings can affect how Point of Sale accesses its company data file, licensing information, program updates, and the merchant account service. . Incorrect settings can result in errors.

Detailed Instructions

Print out a listing of Point of Sale ports, files and their locations so it is available as you configure your firewall.

To configure ZoneAlarm firewall software (version 2.6.362 and later) or ZoneAlarm Pro 3.0:

  1. Click the Windows Start button and select Programs > Zone Labs > ZoneAlarm.
  2. In the ZoneAlarm window, click Programs.
  3. In the Program window, locate all Point of Sale files in the list of applications that have attempted to access the Internet.
  4. If you see an "X" or a "?" next to a Point of Sale related file in the Allow connect column, select Local and Internet. . (Do not change anything in the Allow server column. . This is not required by Point of Sale.)
