Updating (rebranding) the Financial Institutions (FI) Directory in QuickBooks

Overview

The process of updating the Financial Institutions (FI) Directory in QuickBooks is often referred to as branding or rebranding.

QuickBooks maintains a list of all financial institutions that offer online services in QuickBooks. branding. rebranding, re-branding, . The list is different for each version of QuickBooks. branding. rebranding, re-branding, . Occasionally, financial institutions are added or removed from this list because of changes that can include stopping and starting of services or bank mergers and buyouts.

If you have recently upgraded from a previous version of QuickBooks or are experiencing problems going online, updating the financial institutions list is a good troubleshooting step to help determine if any information has changed for your financial institution. 

Note: The financial institutions list in QuickBooks 2009 or later is updated automatically every time you send and receive transactions from the Online Banking Center.

Important: Before troubleshooting any online banking issues:

  • Back up your company data file.
  • Download the most current update for your QuickBooks version to make sure you have any updates that could effect online banking.
Detailed Instructions

To update (rebrand) the QuickBooks financial institution list:

  1. Backup the company file.  
  2. Update QuickBooks to the most current release.
  3. Update the FI list:

    QuickBooks 2009 or later: The financial institutions list is updated automatically every time you send and receive transactions from the Online Banking Center.

    Note: Although your list does not require updating manually if you do not see your financial institution on the list please follow the steps for QuickBooks 2008.

    QuickBooks 2008:

    1. Select the Banking menu and select Online Banking > Set Up Account for Online Services. branding. rebranding, re-branding, .
    2. Click the Select your QuickBooks account drop-down arrow and choose your account.
    3. Click Next.
    4. Click the link What if my Financial Institution is not listed?.
    5. In the QuickBooks Help section under QuickBooks can't find the name of your financial institution, scroll down and click Update the financial institutions list.
    6. Once the sync has been completed, close QuickBooks Help and click Cancel to close the Set up Account for Online Services window.
    7. Select the Banking menu and select Online Banking > Participating Financial Institutions to see if your FI now appears.

    QuickBooks 2007:

    1. Select the Banking menu and select Online Banking >Available Financial Institutions.
    2. Select your financial institution in the Financial Institution Directory and click Apply Now.
    3. The FI's Web site appears.
    4. Close the FI's website to begin the FI list update.
    5. After the Update Financial Institution Information window closes, the FI list is updated in QuickBooks.
