What is happening

QuickBooks doesn't open.

Detailed Instructions
  • Reboot your computer and try to open QuickBooks again.
  • Close the QBW32.EXE process using the Task Manager:
    1. Right-click the Windows taskbar and choose Task Manager.
    2. Click the Processes tab.
    3. If QBW32.EXE is listed, click once to select it, click the End Process button, and then click Yes in the confirmation message.
    4. Close the Task Manager.
    5. Right-click your QuickBooks desktop shortcut and choose Open.
      Note: Opening QuickBooks multiple times (double clicking repeatedly) may prevent it from opening successfully. can't open after installing freezes loading screen, . Be sure to allow sufficient time for QuickBooks to load before continuing.
  • If there is a firewall installed on the computer that is experiencing this problem, verify that QuickBooks has been granted full access through the firewall. can't open after installing freezes loading screen, .   • Log in to Windows as the Windows administrator and try to start QuickBooks. can't open after installing freezes loading screen, .   • Run reboot.bat to register QuickBooks files in Windows:
    1. Open the folder containing the reboot.bat file:
      • Windows Vista: Right-click the QuickBooks icon on your desktop and select Open file location.
      • Window XP:
        1. Right-click the QuickBooks icon on your desktop and select Properties.
        2. Click Find Target.
    2. Double-click the reboot.bat file.

Note: Depending on whether your Windows Folder Options are set to show or hide extensions for known file types, the file may display as reboot.bat or reboot.
