Only Point of Sale 6.0 and later work properly on the Microsoft Windows Vista operating system, as well as on the Windows XP operating system. . Since QuickBooks Point of Sale 5.0 and earlier versions were developed and released before the introduction of Windows Vista, these versions will be adversely affected and may not install on Windows Vista.
To ensure your software runs and installs properly, we strongly recommend that you use Point of Sale 6.0 or later if you plan to use Windows Vista. . If you do try to run Point of Sale 5.0 or earlier versions on Vista, you must be set up as a Windows Administrator and run Point of Sale in Windows XP-Compatibility mode to help reduce the possibility of problems*. . Even then, some of the functionality will be adversely affected and the software may not install. . Not all configurations of Point of Sale 5.0 and prior versions will install or launch, even when you are set up as a Windows Administrator and run Point of Sale in Windows XP Compatibility mode. . The software is affected differently, depending on whether you are using a new PC that already has Windows Vista installed or you upgrade the operating system of an existing PC to Windows Vista. . Additionally, the Point of Sale software will be affected differently depending on whether you are running a single installation of Point of Sale as a Server or multiple installations of Point of Sale on a network that has both a Server and Clients*.
