Setting up manual payroll

To set up manual payroll, please follow these steps:

If you have an Internet connection:

QuickBooks 2008

1. Click the link in this article or continue with the steps below
2. Go to Help > QuickBooks Help
3. Select the Search tab
4. Enter manual payroll in the search box and press Enter
5. Click on the article titled Process payroll manually (without a subscription to QuickBooks Payroll)
6. Within this article, click Set your company file to use the manual payroll calculations setting
7. Click OK on the message that is displayed and exit Help

QuickBooks 2007

1. Select one of the following options:
   • From the QuickBooks Home page, select Learn about Payroll Options.
   • From the QuickBooks Employees menu, choose Payroll and then choose Learn About Payroll Options.
2. If you are using either Accountant edition (QuickBooks Premier Accountant or QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions Accountant), click Not an accountant? in the upper right corner.
3. Under the subscription options, select Learn More for information on how to enter payroll information into QuickBooks if you do not use a QuickBooks Payroll service.
4. Select Set QuickBooks to Enable Manual Paycheck Entry.

QuickBooks 2006 and earlier:

1. Select one of the following options:
   • From the QuickBooks Home page, select Learn about Payroll Options.
   • From the QuickBooks Employees menu, choose Process Payroll and then choose Learn About Payroll Options.
2. If you are using either Accountant edition (QuickBooks Premier Accountant or QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions Accountant), click Not an accountant? in the upper right corner.
3. Under the subscription options, select Learn More for information on how to enter payroll information into QuickBooks if you do not use a QuickBooks Payroll service.
4. Select Set QuickBooks to Enable Manual Paycheck Entry.

If you do not have an Internet connection:

QuickBooks 2007

1. From the QuickBooks Help menu, choose QuickBooks Help.
2. Click the Search tab, type manual payroll, and then click ask.
3. Select the topic Calculate payroll taxes manually (without a subscription to QuickBooks Payroll).
4. Follow the steps listed under the If you prefer to process you payroll manually section to set up your company file.

QuickBooks 2006 and earlier:

Note: Manual payroll is not available with Simple Start, however you can use payroll services with this edition.
