To use QuickBooks in a multi-user environment, you must have read/write access and create/delete rights to the folder where the company file is stored.
Why is this happening?
These errors can be caused by:
- Trying to convert the company file from an earlier version over the network.
- Using a QuickBooks installation that didn't complete properly.
- The network server, Windows user, or QBDataServiceUserXX is trying to access the company file with insufficient permissions.
- Firewall or security software is blocking access to the service on the hosting computer.
- Hosting is enabled on a workstation as well as on the server.
- The company file or it's shared folder is damaged.

- Open QuickBooks and then open the company file on your desktop:
- If an error still occurs, refer to the instructions for verifying and rebuilding the QuickBooks company data.

Scan the folder containing the company file with the QuickBooks Data Server Manager to verify the necessary .ND (network data) files have been created.
- Click the Windows Start button and choose Programs > QuickBooks > QuickBooks Database Server Manager.
- In the QuickBooks Database Server Manager window, click Add Folder and browse to the folders containing the company files.
- When all folders are added, click Scan.

- Browse to the folders containing the company files and make sure the file <filename>.ND was created for each company data file.

Verify that hosting is enabled correctly on the server and is turned off on all the workstations.
Note: Perform the following steps on the host computer (not on the workstations).
- Right-click the Windows Taskbar and select Task Manager.

- For QuickBooks 2007, the entry should be QBDataServiceUser17.
- For QuickBooks 2006, the entry should be QBDataServiceUser.
Note: Make sure the right User Name is running for a given version.

Check for data damage in the company file.
- Go to the computer where the company file is located.

- Run the Verify utility on the data file.

- Navigate to the folder that contains the company file.

- Right-click the company file name and select Copy.
- Navigate to the new company file folder you just created.
